Lunch

All Japanese public elementary schools provide a hot school lunch for students, which everyone is expected to eat.
A monthly fee for school lunch is deducted from parents' bank accounts.
You can't opt out of the lunch program and bring your own food to school.
This can be challenging for foreign students who aren't used to Japanese food, but the school lunch is healthy, nutritious and usually quite tasty. Fussy eaters are discouraged in Japan, and parents and teachers see the school lunch as an important way to encourage children to eat many different foods.
If your child has food allergies or special dietary needs, you should request a special meeting with the school.
Students bring home a monthly menu for school lunches.
Watch the menu and the school calendar for days when school lunch won't be served, usually at the beginning and end of the school term.
Children come home earlier on days when school lunch isn't served.
